2050 Amsterdam Avenue is a massive commercial property, originally owned by the famous American entrepreneur, Frank W. Woolworth, and was constructed in 1911. What makes this project unique is its location at the three-way intersection of Amsterdam Avenue, St. Nicholas Avenue, and 162nd Street in Upper Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood.
Marin Architects’ proposed renderings convert the usage from commercial to mixed-use, which would maintain residential and retail spaces. This seven-story structure carries forward the character of traditional Upper East Side apartment homes, with its cast stone cornice, cast-iron railed balconies, and enlarged window openings. The red brick executes a sense of modern industrial-style lofts. Despite its flare of modernism, the structure blends effortlessly into the surrounding residential neighborhood.
